PJB Back in the studio.

God forbid someone buys a song they've never heard before, right!? That being said, the Pat Jordan Band took to the studio last weekend to record a single. We did "King of Wishful Thinking" by Go West. For those of you who come to our live show, it's a staple in the set that we've been playing for a long time.

We also shot some video all day and will be sharing the final product soon. Brendan Buss is the man on that. You may recall the Pat Jordan Band "Twice" teaser video. That was all him. The main objective of this thing was just to get the song, and our name out there a bit to increase traffic to the original stuff. You dig it the most.

As for the song itself, the arrangement has evolved a bit I suppose, but if I remember correctly, my friend Kainoa, who was living out of state at the time, and I had been discussing the song and different possible arrangements. The one you'll hear is the one I came up with. I think it's transposed a few keys down from the original (Ruben Studdard and I may share clothes, but I don't have the range my brother has) and it's also alot more staccato than the original.

You'll also notice in the arrangement that we added some extra time to get Simon and Brendan some solo time to shred on. This part was important to me and turns out, it was absolutely vital to the song as well and gives it some great personality. As for Rob and Josh, well, it's kind of like they put on a pair of satin underpants and smashed their balls up against a chain-link fence for 3 minutes and 30 seconds. It's filthy. Filthy good. Oh yeah, and me? I pretty much hacked away like a gorilla and sang like an angel.

Hope you enjoy.

For Immediate release: Pat is having an existential freak out. It should also be noted that his face is twitching, there are blue spots in his vision and he can't fall asleep at night. What's good for you is that he will be with his musical assocaites at the Russian River Brewing Company on March 17th, which, as some of you may know, is the feast day for people named Patrick. Pat is going to get intoxicated. Please join him and please, for god's sake people, don't drink and drive. Pat lives around the corner and you can crash at his place.

I wonder if anyone noticed.

I wonder if anyone noticed that I rolled into work on Monday morning wearing the same thing I left in on Friday. Now, one might think that I spent the weekend doing laundry and my wardrobe selection was coincidental and subconscious. Not at all.
I left work Friday and decided to head to SF to see Shannon and Tommy. We had a blast. First stop was the Gold Cane. Now, I have been (drunk) in the Gold Cane more times than I would like to admit, but never for my first stop. I usually take that room on about 15 drinks deep with a slice of pepperoni in hand for a nightcap. This was different. I guess I never realized how bad the lighting, chairs, and color scheme is in there. But do not worry sweet Cane, you still have a special "last call" place in my heart that remains as strong as ever.
For the best part of the night I met up with the boys from the Bag, minus Stadler at Martin Macks. He was missed, but Tait, Schewe, and Cowtill and I proceeded to blow it out for the evening. The evening came to a close, with yet another Schewe chain smoking session outside the abode on California Street and an overwhelming desire to go home and brush up on my Steve Miller covers.
Saturday, after waking up in my clothes and not showering, began with "breakfast" at Pete's Tavern (holy mini corndogs batman!). After a beer run to Safeway, 4 of us pleading allegiance to mother Canada to dodge a canvasser, and a Woody Zips party, I found myself re-uniting with a lost Walnuts in Washington Square Park, doing my best Daniel Day Lewis ("I will Find you!").
Saturday, bed time, in my clothes, on the hardwood. I drank all day, but I felt sober. So after three different poundings on the ceiling from the neighbor up above, I decided to call it a night. Certainly not the Waldorf Astoria, but I can sleep anywhere
Getting sick of spilling out my words here. But Sunday? I borrowed the Giants for a day and came out a victor, I ran into an old rugby friend at a random bar, and for the best part, a tire blow out on Geary, waking up late IN MY CLOTHES FROM FRIDAY on Monday with no time to get home and change.
When I got to work “Hey Pat, how was the weekend?” I replied “It was great, I took it pretty easy and went to visit my brother and sis, but I didn’t get as much laundry done as I would have liked to”

Our little Steve is all growns up

In case you have not heard, Steve Toomey will soon be hitting the road and taking a little break from the PJB. He got the drum technician job for Journey and will be touring with them starting in the spring and throughout the summer and fall. Needless to say, things are looking up for Steve. Not to worry, he will be in town, here and there, between different legs of the tour rocking out with us on stage, but he will be missed.
What will I miss? Cold IPA at practice, his BBQ ribs (off the hook!), his pouty face he makes when we play songs he doesn't like, and he and Justin arguing over god knows what, but more than anything I will miss the rock. Steve, best of luck.
So, we have a show at the Rusisian River Brewing Compay this Saturday (Steve's last local show for now). I LOVE playing the RRBC. For me, it's just the most fun. It's super laid back and the room and the crowd have the best energy. I really hope you can make it there.
See you soon.

New Year's Weekend

The show at the Rickshaw was killer; it really could not have been better in my mind. I think we all played great
(well, I was sloppy, but why do you think I have the other guys?) Kapakahi and Dogman rocked as usual. Great guys, great music. The crowd was outstanding. It makes it so easy to take on a new room with familiar faces. Jessie, Luisa thanks for bringing the people by and letting us share. (Mikey, Tavis, the Cranberry thanks you. You keep showing up and I notice every time.)
I was supposed to head home on Sunday, but after a $220 tab at Keezar Pub, a cellulose wraped hooter consumed on a walk through hippie hill, 2 Pasquale specials at Yancy's for Sunday night football, a steady regimen of Irish coffees and Jager bombs to keep my eyes from closing, and an argument about the shortest word in the English language that contains all the vowels (It's "sequoia"), it was time to turn in for the night.
As for the next day, it was defined by the birth of my new brainchild. A hint: "(h)". That's all I can share because if you knew more, you would steal it. Trust me.
My little sister dressed up like a fairy on New Year's Eve and was asking drunk people what their resolution was. She held the the star at the end of her wand in their face, as if it was a microphone. I was a little loaded myself, but I still remember my favorite resolution. He said, "I'm going to try to speak into alot less wands in 2008".
Shanny fell over and we proceeded to Cowgill's, from "The Bag". Plenty of beer, one amazing liesure suit, and an abreviated chainsmoking session with Schewe outside of the dweelling on California Street. It was not our first time. A Schewe session is usually a good session.
So, the new year. I belive that 2008 shall be the year of the Pat, as I am due. The past few years have been difficult. Finance, Family, frustration. Hence, my "2007 can go fuck itself" t-shirt I had made. Anyway, thanks. My resolution? To write more.
